Inspired by my mother, the person who gave me life. Red is the first impression in my memory of the world, which is in a woman's body. Red is my first impression of the world, from the inside of a woman's body. In the middle of the vagina, there is a mirror through which we can see ourselves. Red and white are symbols of the flesh, and the older I get, the more I am able to understand the past, and the memories of the time before I was born, that is, my mother. The fact that the umbilical cord was never cut.

Ziqing Yang was born in China and is studying a Master of fine art program at Goldsmiths, and has a BA in Arts and Crafts, would like to use various media in her works. She focuses on identity and personal experiences which like a mirror, could reflect social links with the environment, and try her best to create each work with sincerity. Dedicated to exploring the truth of human life, the most basic and common feelings such as love, melancholy, joy, pain... Devoting herself to present a discernment of the natural beings which is obsecured by the foggy layers of language and power.

The Process

It took me almost three months to complete this work. During the production of the work-it was the most difficult time for me. I just arrived in London and was robbed. I felt depressed. This kind of emotion makes me miss my mother who is far away in my hometown. The vagina works woven with red and white threads are to commemorate my mother—the starting point of my life.
