Through the touch of space

Serenity

With stars lightly floating in the space, I want to bring the lightness of it close to us with adding an interaction between our body and the space. The glossiness of enamel added a more shininess to the piece and the delicate material makes you cautious while playing with it. This piece has applied two different effect on each side, not only can you wear it as a ring but it can also be worn as a pendant for daily use.

At its heart, all jewellery is interactive. Yet the pieces in Jiawei’s collection “Serenity” are more of a collaboration than most. Moulded to orbit the wearer, these souvenirs from a galaxy not so far away are a meeting place for the intergalactic and the human terrain. Through her collection Jiawei conveys the peacefulness and grandeur that the universe evokes in her. The reflections of stars are embedded in the powdered glass that glazes over a thin sheet of metal. The Process

There is a special technique I applied in this piece called break-through. It is achieved by having the white enamel on the base layer and a rather thinner black enamel on top of it, overheat it for a bit of longer time, and then you'll have the white colour flipped to the surface like stars hanging in the dark sky. This texture has random effect depends on the thickness of metal and the enamel layers.
It was also challenging with applying textures on both sides to keep the piece flat, and to control the texture in a way I want, it was risk taking, however I successfully achieved it with the satisfied outcome.
