Despite Collection 2023

This piece, Pink, is part of a series including three works (Blue and Yellow). Each piece welcome's the viewers interpretation, be that memories and nostalgia, social issues and conflicts, or identity.

To me, they show identity in chaos. Order in chaos. The experience of blanket statements made, with a million sub-stories taking place. A color field is created at the surface level of the piece - but there is so much more going on beneath that. Those answers can be filled in with subjective interpretation. A war scene, a battle, a color field unifying all of the players. What is its purpose? What does it stand for? The questions become more importantly and identify is created in the answers to those questions.

Plastic army men, spray paint, on canvas

The process for these pieces was quite fun for me. I acquired a large collection of old plastic army men and thought about ways to give them a second life. The colors were important to me, as I wanted to create worlds that were not tied to pre existing notions.
