Pink, Orange, and Black Abstraction

Study of Abstraction Series

This piece is part of an abstraction study I worked on during the pandemic. I was reading Ninth Street Women and learning about the different schools of NYC Abstract Expressionism and action painting. During this time I was studying the work of Grace Hartigan and Joan Mitchell and began contemplating if abstraction can ever be fully independent from a subject?
