Passive-Aggressive, 2022

Passive-Aggressive is an acrylic painting on canvas. I mainly used red and white, and in the middle, I used blue and purple tones. The usage of the color red and white represent anger, and the blue and purple tones represent the exposure of that anger. Adding to the idea of the color, the splatters created with white paints also add the meaning of exposing anger in exaggerated ways. On the other hand, the depiction of society, which is associated with reduced or blocked anger can be found in the brushwork. Compared to the middle, the outside of sharp brushstrokes, I tried to paint them with more round strokes. The contrast in the brushstrokes shows the contrast between suppressions and expressions. As a result, with the colors and brushstrokes, I wanted to show how I think about passive-aggressive behaviors. Those are inspired by the paradox or conflicts between human nature and society.society.
