Landmark of Prosperity

Celebrate New York City's diversity through immigration, marked by the Statue of Liberty.

As a native New York State resident who now resides in the heart of Manhattan, I always took inspiration from the famous statue gifted to us by France. This city and landmark on Ellis Island marks the great bravery, perseverance, and hardship that many of our ancestors passed through. I wanted to create a representational feeling to the view of the statue from a low angle, however I wanted to add in a twist on the perspective of the city around it. Making it altered to the normal view, this is the same for each of our ancestors journeys coming to America. I chose my main medium of oil paint because I feel color captures the scene unlike any other form of material that could be used. This creation means to carry on the legacy that our country's immigrants inspired. To keep going after your dreams in this vast land of opportunity called the United States of America.

About

Living in New York City as a graduated art student, I am constantly around such an effervescent environment. This which appears throughout my expressive oil painting artwork. My mission in my art, is to captivate the viewers mind and eye through vibrant colors, brushwork, blending, and style. My concepts come emerge deep within me, as I always try to evoke something that is worth noting. My subject matter is mainly surrounding positivity, the inner self, locations which influence the viewer, and many other changing theories. To inspire, and teach others with the magical mediums of 2-D art making is my chosen journey I was born for. I believe everyone has an artistic sense, and I want to bring it out within them through my arts visual and symbolic messages.

Oil on Panel Board

The process of this work was special to me because it was the composition was placed initially right on the panel. I envisioned a shifting perspective of the buildings, and I feel I accomplished it successfully on the panel. I used a ruler, and tape in between layers of oil paint to get crisp lines. I wanted to create a subtle texture with the paint, therefore I used a hard bristle brush with thick paint to get the desired effect. I learned the importance of layering paint, waiting for it to be dried completely, and the importance of blending color. I explored the use of a variety of brush sizes to get the details of the piece.
