IT’S MY FAULT

A tapestry encapsulating my inner thoughts during my parents separation.

This tapestry accumulates all my internal feelings about my parents separation. I felt I was responsible for their separation and this led my thoughts to spiral. This piece allowed me to express all my feelings about that situation, whilst linking in extracts from Shakespeare’s Macbeth and the iconic lines from Philip Larkin’s This Be The Verse to articulate alongside my own text and imagery about what happened. The words of Shakespeare and Larkin allowed my work to not only be intimate and personal to me but broaden my experiences so my experience can me understood globally.

My art deals with personal experiences and heightened states of emotion. I tie together intimate and universal subject matters that draw in the fundamental themes of being human, such as, love, loss and grief. My process explores my past and unravels it into the present. My manifesto has always been to create art with integrity, displaying real and authentic events and emotions. I love to combine text and imagery. Not only do I take hard hitting statements from memories and literature but I also use words as a way of illustrating imagery in a broader sense. I love the intensity between presenting imagery that is intimate but I also love to illustrate from extracts from books and quotes.
