Galaxy Rotary Broach

Production project

Inspired by the colorful image from instagram account @nasahubble, I decide to borrow the subject of jewellery to bring something so far away close to us. In this piece, I used hot enamel as craft in order to mimic the color and the texture of galaxy. With adding a kinetic movement into this brooch, which the galaxy enamel disc could rotate, it looks like stars running in the space.

The Process

This project was made in my second year study during my bachelor degree. It was aimed to finish 20 exact same pieces within the requested time and sell them in our final year study. Hot enamel is hard to control and contains a lot of risks during making. I felt excited to challenge myself in making such amount with using this craft and learned the most efficient way while considering mass production.
