I found myself at a koi pond on my school campus and I sat down by the water and just watched the fish swim. I was inspired by the movement that occurred in the water when koi fish would swim past each other through the water. The movement of the water and the colors that would reflect off the surface were mesmerizing.

The Process

Unfortunately I did not take any photos of my process. I started with a basic blue wash to capture the emotion of the water. Then painted in the koi changing direction and the fins with each based on how I felt they would interact with one another. I filled in the empty space with streaked of expressive color, swirling around the fish as it did when I watched them swim.
