Adrift Cedar Wood Necklace

A nature inspired wooden statement necklace.

I was inspired by various aspects of nature such as driftwood and bones. It was one of the first times I used Cedar wood to create jewelry and I fell in love with the material. I greatly prefer carving soft materials like wood/wax as opposed to working directly in metal. There is something invigorating about the endless possibilities wood grants the designer.

Growing up in Queens, Skyler was curious about his identity and searched for creative ways to express his journey of discovery. The challenges faced and lessons learned on his journey later became the inspiration for his design.

The Process

I learned how to manipulate Cedar wood for this necklace. I used various machines to carve and cut the wood into the shape I wanted. The challenges I faced included cutting the wood with a bandsaw, which I had never used before. I wanted to create a very specific shape and I had to carve some of this shape using tools such as files, burrs, and sandpaper.
